AI Can’t Take Home Oscars, But Should We Worry?

Wah, can you believe it? The Academy’s decision to exclude AI-generated performances and screenplays from the Oscars is making waves, and not just in Hollywood lah.

For those of us in the tech scene, this is quite a big deal. AI has been flexing its muscles in various fields, from generating art to composing music, and now even trying its luck in storytelling. But the Oscars? Not so fast!

This decision is like a double-edged sword. On one hand, it’s good to keep the human touch alive in filmmaking. After all, nothing beats the creativity and emotional depth that a real-life person brings to the screen. Imagine a robot trying to portray heartbreak – can you even?

But on the flip side, as we embrace digital transformation, we can’t ignore the potential of AI. It can help writers brainstorm ideas or even create scripts. By cutting it off from the Oscars, are we saying that AI should stay in its lane? This raises questions for many of us working in IT services: how far do we let AI go? And what role should it play in our industries?

It matters to the everyday person too. As AI continues to develop, the lines between human creativity and machine-generated content will blur. If we don’t establish some guidelines now, we might end up in a world where we can’t tell art from algorithm.

So, what do you think? Should we give AI a chance to shine, or keep it out of the limelight? Personally, I feel a balance is needed. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater lah. There’s definitely potential for collaboration.
